The human experience is quite the adventure. We can have an incredible week, then wake up on Saturday feeling sad, and we can’t figure out why. We struggle and find more passion there than when we are on cloud nine. Have you ever needed to cry and laugh at the same time? That’s an interesting one. The possibilities are endless in the world of emotions and vibrations. Not only are we dealing with the internal parts of ourselves, but also interacting with the mind, body, and souls of everyone around. I have a strong sensitivity to these elements and have learned how important it is to figure out if what I feel is coming from myself or the world around me. To no surprise, painting is what helps me decipher the elements. I call it Illumination Day.
Illumination day represents the darkness and light that I am holding onto inside and is split between two paintings. I start with the first painting and use only gray scale; this is the dark side. To finish, the second painting is done only in white and color; this is the light side. I will do this at least once a month, sometimes twice. They are not planned designs and are not meant to be pretty. They are what they are, and reveal the parts of the world I have been spending time in. I find this process to be extremely encouraging and helpful for moving through the human experience. By facing darkness, we are able to find solutions. Hope. A reason to keep going.
Select pairings will be presented and explained on my Instagram and Facebook page. You can also find these paintings in the Dark and Light tabs on the Shop page.
